The Microelectronics Forum will discuss the search for new promising materials

Section No13 of the Forum's scientific conference will discuss the search for new promising materials with unique physical properties in conjunction with the development of new diagnostic methods.

In the context of sanctions, the rapid transition of the Russian industry to domestic materials for microelectronics has become and remains an extremely urgent task. In addition, the prospects for the development of micro- and especially nanoelectronics are determined by the search for new materials (especially low-dimensional ones) and solutions on the basis of which it will be possible to create a fundamentally new element base.

The task of providing domestic enterprises with materials is not easy, but the country has accumulated serious scientific and technological potential to solve it. Recently, the state has been paying great attention to ensuring everything necessary for the creation of new domestic materials. Thus, one of the projects to achieve the national goal "Technological Leadership" is the national project "New Materials and Chemistry", designed until 2030. Its curator is First Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation D.V. Manturov.

The acceleration of the creation of innovative Russian materials, including for microelectronics, is also under the control of the head of state. On February 21 last year, Vladimir Putin took part in the Forum of Future Technologies, dedicated to chemistry and the use of new materials. From the rostrum of the Forum, the President of Russia stressed: "It is quite obvious that in order to be among the leaders in key areas of scientific and technological development, and this is the task we set for ourselves, we need to achieve, among other things, superiority in the field of chemistry and in the creation of new materials."

Following the plenary session and visit to the exhibition of the Forum of Future Technologies, as well as a meeting with scientists held on February 21, 2025, Vladimir Putin approved a list of instructions. The document provides for the development of measures aimed at supporting the national project "New Materials and Chemistry" in the field of industrial implementation of promising developments, digitalization, personnel training and others. Separate instructions relate to measures to develop the production and industrial introduction of chemical catalysts, the development and production of promising devices for energy accumulation and storage, the creation of materials in the field of photonics, and also provide for the creation of an intersectoral digital database of the properties of high-tech materials and their components.

From May 28 to May 30, 2026, the Competence Center of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation, together with Rostec State Corporation and Rospatent, organized a strategic session on cooperation between science and business "New Materials and Chemistry" on the basis of the Kazan National Research Technical University named after A.N. Tupolev, the purpose of which was to strengthen interaction between scientific and industrial partners, as well as to address topical issues of scientific and technical policy.

Today, the country is actively working on the creation of new domestic materials for micro- and nanoelectronics. So, in 2025, the development work on the creation of a mold compound was completed under the leadership of the National Research University of Electronic Technology with the participation of JSC Institute of Plastics, FRC IPCP and Moscow Chemical Plant of the Russian Academy of Sciences. Mold compound is a polymer composite material used to seal chip crystals by transfer compression. It provides mechanical fixation of the crystal, protects the active elements from moisture, dust, corrosion and mechanical damage, and also removes heat.

Until now, Russian microelectronics manufacturers have been forced to use imported analogues, mainly Chinese. This created dependence on supply chains, increased delivery times and the cost of electronics products.

Successful tests of the first Russian mold compound were carried out at the production facilities of GS Nanotech, an enterprise in the field of development, packaging and testing of microelectronics (part of the GS Group holding). Based on the data obtained as a result of technology development and testing, the new material has significant potential to replace the foreign analogue EMG-700-BSE. This was reported by the press service of GS Group.

Another example of successful testing of a new Russian material - at the Zelenograd plant "Micron" - says the press service of the SEZ "Technopolis Moscow", whose resident is the enterprise. We are talking about the first domestic photoresist for the production of integrated circuits using the 90 nm process, developed and created as a result of close scientific and technical cooperation between MERI JSC, FRC PCP and MX RAS and Polyketon LLC.

Photoresist is a light-sensitive polymer material used in photolithography, a key chip manufacturing process. It allows you to create the future processor topology on the surface of the crystal substrate, through which the process of microstructuring the crystal substrate is carried out.

The creation of new breakthrough materials for ECB is also being carried out at the RAS. Thus, the website of the A.V. Rzhanov Institute of Semiconductor Physics of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences reported on March 5, 2026 about the ongoing development of a new material for non-volatile memory elements by the institute's scientists. They published an article about the work in the authoritative journal The Journal of Physics and Chemistry of Solids. It discusses the creation of flash memory elements, where the charge is stored in an array of self-organized quantum dots. The attention of a group of Novosibirsk scientists is currently focused on a system of quantum dots based on GaN/AlN. The calculations published in the article showed that these objects are characterized by a very high energy of electron localization, which is quite enough for non-volatile storage of charge for ten years.

The development of resists for technological processes of photolithography, electron beam, ion-beam lithography, X-ray lithography and nanoimprinting, along with work on the creation of a number of other new promising materials, will be discussed at the meetings of Section No13 of the Russian Forum "Microelectronics 2026" "Materials of Micro- and Nanoelectronics, Diagnostics of Materials and Elements of the Electronic Component Base" of the 12th Scientific Conference "Electronic Component Base and Microelectronic Modules". The conference will be held as part of the next Russian Forum "Microelectronics 2026".

Sirius will soon become the epicenter of a technological breakthrough: the Russian Forum "Microelectronics 2026" starts on September 27 and will last until October 3.
